Soccer is one of the most popular games throughout the world. It is most popular in Europe, and the Americas, mostly the Southern.

Many of the ancient civilizations used to play the sport. The earliest among them is the Egyptians, some 4500 years ago. Using the drawings on caves, the historians have concluded that this ancient civilization used to kick a ball during their festivals.

A football like game called "cuju" was found in ancient China. This game had many resemblances to the present day football, such as that all body parts could be used except hands, and the ultimate aim was to put the leather balls through two pieces of cotton hung. The sport became so popular that it was used for physical fitness of the soldiers.

Ancient Rome also had the game held at Olympics where the main aim was to put the ball in the opponent's goal. However there were no rule and tactics as such. For this reason the game could not have been hosted for long due to the injuries caused by the lack of rules.

The Middle Ages only saw British support the game. This too, like the ancient Rome, had a very large number of players, with no rules, and played on streets. Mostly the game ended in riots.

Modern day football evolved in England around the 19th Century.  A football Association was created to define some rules for the games due to the large number of injuries caused by fierce play and lack of rules. However, the game was still had many disputes, as each town had its own set of rules. Mostly when two different towns met, a dispute would often arise due to disagreement over one another's rules.
To resolve this issue, the twelve clubs of London met to discuss the issue, forming into the famous Football Association, which still exists to this date.
